Starting a business is always challenging, and starting a jewelry business adds another level of difficulty—but David Perry makes it look effortless.
Perry Jewelry was founded by David five years ago, and it is built on the mantra "luxury jewelry for everyday life." Incorporating his love of the luxury industry and sport—David was an All-American Runner in college and an elite marathoner after college—Perry Jewelry has carved out a niche in athletics.
To complement his athletic offerings, David produces a wide range of custom jewelry—engagement rings, wedding bands, chains, etc., all forged in his offices in New York and Los Angeles. Yet his unique niche is creating pieces for those who want to wear jewelry either while competing or commemorating an athletic achievement, as he says, anywhere between running marathons and jiu-jitsu. He's built the business on excellent customer service and a premium experience that stands out among peers in an industry only sometimes known for such things.
Athletes have recently been wearing more jewelry while competing. Baseball players and track and field athletes come to mind immediately. One glance at the USA Track and Field Championships this past weekend shows that most athletes wear something around their neck, and many of them are wearing Perry Jewelry.
Grant Holloway, pictured below, is the reigning Olympic silver medalist, one of the USA’s top Track and Field stars, the favorite to get gold in Paris this year in the 110m high hurdles, and is a Perry Jewelry ambassador. David is working with some other very high-profile athletes who are wearing Perry Jewelry, which I'm sure he'll be announcing soon. The future is bright for David and his brand, and I look forward to seeing where he takes it for the rest of the year and beyond.
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with David in his New York showroom to talk shop. We had a great chat about a wide range of topics—from how he got his start to his process, the state of men's jewelry right now, and his iconic photoshoot in the Cotswolds.
